Being “green” is good business for DSC Systems Graphics
Many of our customers know we are a large converter of wide format paper. But maybe what they do not know is that we trim all of our large mil rolls generally in ¼” and ½” increments for quality purposes. For years we would trim these rolls and dispose of the excess in the dumpster. A number of years ago we decided to bail the rolls and send them off to a recycler. This method of disposing the trim increased our efficiencies, saved money from dumping the waste in trash containers and we receive a rebate from the recycler for the bailed rolls.
As a paper converter, we box and bag all our own papers. Since we deliver our products mainly in the Washington Metro area, when we make a delivery to our customers we ask them to save the boxes, bags, cores and end caps and we will pick them up to be used again, if acceptable, or put them into our bailer for recycling.
We also sell large volumes of wide format HP inkjet cartridges. In the past few months we have encouraged our customers to recycle empty cartridges and send them back to HP. We have given out free empty HP boxes to our customers and asked them to participate in the HP recycling program. There is no fee or charge (except to mail back the carton to HP) for this program.
Being “green” has created major advantages for us in our daily business activities as well as our customers. We hope to continue this trend.
